Tale of 2 Railways

A tale of 2 railways.  The very impressive GWR 45xx gliding by with the morning goods.  An example of a mighty railway company that reaches far and wide.   The other,  a small, struggling independent light railway of a handful of miles, that can just about make it yet another month in existence.  Held together with a few dedicated souls, spit, wire & a prayer or two !

Note the economizing, both the converted Itala auto/rail car and the shed, have utilized the same tin of paint !

 Local photographer and railway enthusiast Tristan managed to catch this shot of the afternoon branch passenger,  about to depart Windrush Junction,  calling at all stations to Taunton. 

Wagon shunting

#7711 goes about shunting the daily branch goods.  A few more wagons than normal,  business must be surprisingly good.

 Old vs. New.   The GWR Pannier,  state of the art RTR product,  manufactured just a few years ago.  The Fruit van,  scratchbuilt, in the 1970s.  They make quite a contrast.  Both very enjoyable models to have on the railway.    

Shunting Dockside

 Not much to report this week.  A photograph was taken by amateur photographer Tristan of some activity down at the Boxer Bay docks.  The new on-loan Ruston Hornsby shunter (a nice model by Heljan) is put through it's paces.  Happy Easter to all.

 A quick photograph was taken of BBR #8 "Hilda" , an ex Midland Railway 1F 0-6-0T, standing in the goods yard at Windrush Junction with a newly acquired brake van.

 Just a few photos from today's operating session.  BBR Terrier "Josie" with the up branch passenger,  crossing the peat tramway & canal, about to pass under "Guy's bridge"   Later,  you see "Josie" crossing the down afternoon goods with Manning Wardle "Niki" at Windrush Junction.  A busy day for a light railway !  Last photo shows the neat little Heljan Ruston Hornsby 48DS shunting wagons at Boxer Bay Docks, still very much under construction.  I have hopes of making some major progress on the docks in '26.

Thanksgiving

 It's our Thanksgiving holiday here in the states today and I just wanted to express my Thanks to all the online forums & friends I've made over the years in this wonderful hobby.  I've learned so much following your endeavors in the hobby.

 Here's a couple photos of the railway,  with BBR #1 departing with a short goods down to the docks, and a shot of the engine shed, with a Peckett taking a deserved break after some shunting.     Cheers !

After a hard weeks work of shuttling wagons to and fro, the meandering Manning Wardle has returned to the shed for a rest.  The loco is an excellent model by Minerva,  very well detailed, economical and runs faultlessly.

 Nothing much to report of late.  Work is progressing slowly on the signal box for Boxer Bay.    Here's a couple photographs taken from today's operating session.  BBR Manning Wardle "Niki" on a short goods and one of my favorite wagons I built,  the Parkside GWR horse box.

Just some snaps from the railway this week.  No time for any progress.  But it's always relaxing to escape to my miniature dream world,  if only for an hour or two.  The GWR syphon is a favorite,  such a neat looking design.

 

Typical GWR !

Just the quintessential Great Western branchline train today.  A 77xx Pannier,  Autocoach,  and a milk tank to complete the scene.  The Minerva model runs so smooth and quiet, glides along.  I need to pick up one of their nice looking parcel vans.

Lively times

 For a country branch line station,  it's certainly lively times at Windrush Junction.  A Peckett shunting some wagons, Manning Wardle "Niki"  making up the morning passenger to Boxer Bay.  All the while, the motor coach competition is attempting to pry away as many patrons as they can.
